For over ten years ACANA has been working with children, youth, families, and other community members within our targeted geographic community. ACANA’s programs in the past have been highly effective, and have even been commended by many independent observers including The Philadelphia Inquire, The Philadelphia City Paper, the Governor's Advisory Commission on African American Affairs., and the Philadelphia Human Relation Commission. According to the Governor's Advisory Commission on African American Affairs, “ACANA is a one of a kind organization in the state and its model of service should be considered in other cities” (Sonya M. Toler, Executive Director.)
Testimonials
“When I came to this country I didn’t know how to speak English. I didn’t know how to read or write. I didn’t even know how to write my name or my address. I started taking the Adult Education classes at ACANA where I learned how to speak, read and write English. It helped me a lot because now I can do things on my own. I got a driver’s license and now I am doing everything for myself. I want to continue to take classes so that I can read and write even better and eventually take my citizenship exam. “
