ACANA’s Serving and Transforming Active Youth (A-STAY) program funded a film production project which was completed in June 2011. ACANA youth, ages 15-21, began by helping to write and edit the script for the film. The group wanted to make a film that would educate their peers about the consequences of their actions in school and beyond. The film emphasized the importance of education and the opportunities that the main character sacrificed when she stopped concentrating on her studies. Over the course of several months, the group rehearsed and acted in the film nearly every day after school. They gained first-hand experience in acting and film production, built teamwork and communication skills, and were able to engage in a positive and supportive afterschool environment. The first screening was held on June 24. Another screening will be shown on July 29 at 8 PM AT ACANA Hall. For a preview of the film, go to the acana tube page!
